Opposition Breakdown: Ravens Edition

Olivia Peebles

Lamar Jackson will seek to bounce back to his elite self after an injury ridden 2021 season.

As the Jets kick off their season on Sunday 11th September, there’s mixed feelings amongst Jets fans as we saw Joe Flacco named starting Quarterback against his former team earlier in the week. The mood got even gloomier as relatively new signing OT Duane Brown being ruled out of the game with a shoulder injury that could land him on the injury reserve list. The mounting worries for the Jets will certainly make the already tough task of facing a strong team in the Baltimore Ravens, seeking to recapture the ultra competitive AFC North.

Baltimore fans may be concerned about star QB Lamar Jackson’s contract situation, as the two sides were not able to meet on an extension and will go into the 2022 with the issue still at hand, for now at least. We spoke to @UKRavens in preparation of the 2022 opener, as we talk about everything from The Wire, impressive drafts, and their former Super Bowl winners heading up Gang Green on Sunday.

Hi! To kick things off, how did you become a Baltimore Ravens fan?

Watching The Wire. As we hear from many fans of the show, they adopted the team as their own after.

How would you sum up the Ravens’ off-season? How do you feel about the team heading into the season?

Impressive (on paper) draft, unbeaten in pre season (again) now 23 games whilst hardly playing any starters. Lamar, Andrews etc haven’t taken a snap yet. Lots of players coming back off season ending injuries so plenty of question marks still. Stanley, Lamar, Humphrey, Peters, Dobbins all returning.

Which underrated Ravens’ player should the Jets be wary of going into the game?

Rashod Bateman. Missed most of training camp and the first half of the season in his rookie year. Trading Marquise Brown away and his 146! targets last year has us excited about a Bateman explosion.

Ravens WR Rashad Bateman. Will he give the Jets defence a torrid time on Sunday?

How do you see the Jets from their off-season activity and the current shape of the team?

Probably had the best draft of any team in our eyes. Now can they put it all together and how long will it take. Young, exciting team, hopefully they figure it out a little later in the season.

How do you feel going up against former Quarterback Joe Flacco?

Joe is a king here. Will never say a bad word against him and wish him all the best. Saying that I hope he has a stinker! Wins in week 2,3 and 4 would be nice looking at your schedule however.

Current Jets starting Quarterback Joe Flacco won the Super Bowl with the Ravens in 2013.

Result Prediction?

27-20 Ravens
