View From the Other Cockpit: Miami Dolphins

Olivia Peebles

Coming off our unprecedented AFC North run of fixtures, the Jets sit at a respectable 2-2 record. We saw the good, the bad, the ugly, the unthinkable and arguably the most important, the return of Zach Wilson.

Miami enters this game on the backend of criticism over their handling of Tua Tagovailoa’s head injury concerns, stemming from their win over Buffalo two weeks ago. Consequently, the Jets enter their AFC East showdown facing Teddy Bridgewater, the journeyman quarterback who had a lot of positive things to say about his time with the Jets this week. Nevertheless, Miami look strong and will certainly be a tough test for this relatively inconsistent Jets team. We talked to Dolphins fan Andy Davies to get the lowdown on all things going on in South Beach.

Hi, how did you become a Dolphins fan?

I watched the Saints Chargers London game in 2008 and loved it. Bought madden and the game asked me for my favourite team. Knowing I was due to go on a family holiday to Orlando in the summer of 2009, I asked my brother which team is closest to Orlando and he told me the Miami Dolphins, even if this is geographically incorrect haha. So I used them on the game and the rest is history

Dolphins have started the season very well, beating some great teams, what have you made of the start of the season?

Yeah its been very good! Tyreek Hill has been such a massive difference maker on offense, as has Mike McDaniel who has been the key to Tua’s improvement. Defensively has been abit questionable at times but overall I cannot argue with a 3-1 record, especially when the first four games was Pats Ravens Bills and Bengals.

What’s your thoughts/opinion on the whole Tua situation? What do the Dolphins fanbase think?

I think alot of the fanbase have defended the team and blamed more the protocol. I personally feel that we should never have played him against the Bills after the incident in the game as his health should always override a desire to win games.

Usual QB Tua Tagovailoa suffered very worrying head injuries in the Dolphins loss against the Bengals

The Jets come off a good away victory to Pittsburgh that takes them to 2-2, what have you made of their season so far?

I think the 2-2 record is fraudulent. They had extreme luck against the Browns and perhaps the Steelers win was justified, but if Pickett played the whole game they may have beaten the Jets.

Which players do the Jets need to look out for? Any players that are underrated/gone under the radar for the Dolphins?

The obvious player is Hill. Players that have gone under the radar that the Jets should look out for is Melvin Ingram, who leads the team in sacks. Jevon Holland is someone that you should be wary of. He has the fourth most tackles on the team, second most passes defended and second most sacks, as well as being the only player with an interception this season for the Dolphins.

Game score and predictions?

If Tua was playing, I’d have us winning by alot more points , but Teddy worries me. I will go for a 20-10 Dolphins win.
